We feature many natural wood tabletop options, several styles of tabletop edges, and numerous beautiful finishes. Wood Species Characteristics

Black Walnut is a true American hardwood and our most popular wood dining tabletop. We harvest Black Walnut throughout the Midwest. Black Walnut slabs typically have a moderate blonde sap edge, but occasionally we find a wild blonde edge, which is always a thrill for us and our clients! Many of our clients love the blonde edges and random streaks throughout the tabletop as it nicely contrasts the natural brown tones of the Black Walnut.

Alder is a light to medium-density, stable and sustainable hardwood. We can build your Alder tabletop with a smooth to the touch style, or if you prefer, we can provide a bit more texture using proprietary sandblasting techniques. The natural edge of Alder is not very exciting, so we have perfected a manufactured edge technique that nicely replicates a natural live edge.

Ambrosia Maple is a medium/hard-density wood. We harvest Ambrosia Maple in Michigan. Ambrosia Maple is known for its creamy colored background and bluish-grey to brown streaks found throughout the wood.

Asian Walnut is an exotic, medium-density, tropical hardwood with similar characteristics to our domestic Black Walnut. We love the high character and wow factor of this wood species!

Cherry is a medium-density hardwood. Cherry has a blonde sap edge and features a smooth grain and reddish-brown hues. The beauty of Cherry, while understated in comparison to some wood species, has made it one of the most sought-after wood species to craft gorgeous furniture from. Cherry is a small growth wood, so this species is only offered as a plank style tabletop.

Redwood is a soft-density wood, much like cedar and pine. Redwood is harvested from naturally fallen and permitted trees in Northern California. Old growth Redwood comes from trees that have weathered for years after falling naturally. Our access to old growth Redwood is very limited. New growth Redwood comes from trees that have recently fallen. Most large slabs are new growth, which has a smooth blonde edging.

Red Oak is a high-density hardwood. Red Oak features a gorgeous, distinct grain. We can build your Red Oak tabletop with a smooth to the touch style, or if you prefer, we can provide a richer texture using proprietary sandblasting techniques. The natural edge of Red Oak is not very exciting, so we have perfected a manufactured edge technique that nicely replicates a natural live edge.

Sycamore is a medium/hard-density wood. Sycamore features a distinct grain with characteristic flecks and is consistent in coloration throughout the heart and sap wood.

White Pine is a soft-density wood. White Pine is well known for is knotty and rugged appearance. The frequent knots lend gorgeous contrast to the yellow-hued, creamy white color of the White Pine.

Tabletop Types

Plank Tabletops are built by cutting smaller planks from a larger slab and adhering them together.
Book-Match Tabletops are built by adhering sequential slabs cut from a larger log. These slabs mirror each other when flipped and adhered together.
Slab Tabletops are built using a single slab of wood.

Tabletop Edges

Chamfer Edge is sometimes referred to as a transitional edge. This edge connects two surfaces of the table at a 45-degree angle.
Flat Edge is exactly as the name suggests. The edge is aligned with the surface of the table to give a clean, modern appearance.
Live Edge is the natural edge left on a piece of wood, retaining the beautiful characteristics of the tree. Our Live Edges come in several width variances. Mild Live Edges have a 1”-2” variance, Natural Live Edges have a 2”-3” variance, and our Wild Live Edges have a 3”-6” variance.
Crafted Live Edge is manufactured technique we have perfected to create a realistic, natural appearing edge on wood species that do not have a very exciting natural live edge of their own. We can add a Crafted Live Edge to almost any wood species or shape tabletop.
